My father’s name is Raafat. Ever since I can remember, he’s always had some sort of sleeping issue. My sister and I would always go out of our way to point it out, and we thought it was absolutely hilarious that during any given time during our church service, it was likely that he was fast…
Restrepo received a 98% on the tomato-meter. The ever-harsh metacritic gave it an impressive 84. Wall Street Journal says “his movie will stir your heart and open your mind”.
Unfortunately, Restrepo is just a war documentary with laughing, crying, and lots of shooting. The filmmaker attempts to portray all the soldiers in this company as part of a family, and I believe it. The documentary wins a lot of points here: it’s easy to see that all the soldiers care for each other, especially during certain parts where you are guaranteed to feel emotion, assuming you are a half-decent human being.
I’d love to tell you that this is one of the best documentaries I’ve seen, but it turns out to just be good. How it won all these awards and made the critics rave is beyond me.
I don’t mean to degrade these soldiers either, they are all wondrous people and whether you believe in foreign occupation or not, you’d be a fool not to respect them.
I’m just, so confused. That’s not to say I don’t get it, because I do. I just don’t see what they see in it. Like The Hurt Locker.
